Alumnus heads drive to aid Yolanda victims

“There is no sunshine in the Philippines today…let’s light a candle and not wait surgery to open our heart,” pleads Philip S. Chua, MD, FACS, FPCS, Class ’61, a retired cardiac surgeon and chairman of the Filipino United Network – USA, a 501(c)3 non-profit humanitarian Foundation in the United States.

FUN-USA’s Fund for Hope drive has netted more than a million pesos, which it sent to the Linkapil disaster relief arm of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas in Manila, to help feed and care of for more than 2,500 families and the purchase at least 50 tents to be used as makeshift classrooms for thousands of children whose schools were destroyed by typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan), the worst ever record in human history.
